Term 2, 2023
The end of Term 2 saw the students of Wagga Wagga Christian College transform the popular local restaurant, Mates Gully, into a lively art gallery. Mates Gully, adorned with local artist Paul Nolte’s work, provided the perfect backdrop for our students to showcase their artistic talent. The students' diverse perspectives and artistic visions were brought to life through captivating photographs and intricately painted canvases. This convergence of media not only showcased the versatility of our young artists but also highlighted the significance of embracing various artistic techniques and approaches. The exhibition underscored the importance of local art, especially in encouraging our young artists across the Riverina to peruse their passions and talents.
“It has been our aim as a school to broaden our students' understanding of art beyond textbooks, stimulating their creativity and instilling in them a lifelong appreciation for the arts. The opportunity to display their own work has been invaluable. Our young artists are telling such powerful and important stories through their art.” - Mrs Martinez, College Visual Arts Teacher.
The support and enthusiasm from the community highlighted the significance of fostering artistic talent among our young artists. Opening night, as families and friends gathered around the artworks, engaging in conversations and appreciating the creative efforts, a vibrant energy filled the space, creating a sense of unity and celebration.
Mrs Martinez continued, "It was beautiful to see so many students, family and friends attend in support of our young artists. We are all so excited to be a part of this exhibition where young people can express who they are and communicate important stories and concepts to local audiences. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to promote their work and be a part of Wagga’s thriving art community. Art is not about painting a pretty picture – It is a tool to create positive change, understanding and healthy self-expression. Our kids have something important to say and we can all learn from them."
A big thank you, to the amazing team at Mates Gully for your many contributions to our community and for giving our young artists a space to showcase their work.
