Mummification

November 2023

Year 7 completed their studies on Ancient Egypt with a bit of hands on fun creating their own ‘mummies’. First a slit was made in an orange, the students scraped out the "brains" (which many enjoyed on the hot day) and then dried out the ‘body’ with paper towel before packing with natron salt - a chemical salt which was used by the ancient Bronze Age societies in the eastern Mediterranean as a preservative for mummies. Finally the mummies were all wrapped up!

The students are looking forward to seeing what these dried out corpses look like in a few weeks!
