Year 8 Medieval day
Hear Ye, Hear Ye! We come, as humble Year 8 students, before the Lords of this province bearing gifts of writing, castle design and heraldry
20 October, 2023 Hear Ye, Hear Ye! We come, as humble Year 8 students, before the Lords of this province bearing gifts of writing, castle design, heraldry, promises of faithfulness and stories of heroic feats. Friday was Medieval Day, when Year 8 students presented their creative group work assignments, showcasing the learning they have been doing in Human Society and its Environment (HSIE). "Today has been a great opportunity to engage the students in topics of learning. They have drawn on all that they have learnt in class to develop a storyline based on an assumed family identity, the design of a castle and a coat of arms, the development of a code of chivalry and the composition of a persuasive letter to the Lord." explained Mr Paul Wallace, Head of HSIE in Secondary School. This special day was full of activity and feasting. Students created castles out of cake, captured the castle and the king in games of Kubb and enjoyed broth and chicken, bread and cheese for lunch seated at long tables in the Great Hall of the castle (the COLA at the College Oval). "The year group really enjoyed the competitive nature of the day and were enthusiastic to make the most of every opportunity." The Daily Advertiser popped in to capture the action.
