Visual Arts Students Explore Canberra and Wagga Wagga Galleries

Our Year 11 and 12 Visual Arts students recently travelled to Canberra to visit the National Gallery of Australia and the National Portrait Gallery, engaging in an enriching and immersive learning experience beyond the classroom. Throughout the day, students explored a diverse range of artworks spanning Australian, Indigenous and international collections, gaining valuable insight into different artistic styles, cultural perspectives and contemporary practices.

The excursion allowed students to view firsthand many of the artworks and artists they study as part of their Stage 6 Visual Arts course, deepening their understanding of key concepts and strengthening their ability to analyse and interpret works in context.

In addition, Year 9 and 10 Visual Arts students joined senior students on a visit to the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery to view the annual ArtExpress exhibition. Students were inspired by the creativity, technical skill and conceptual depth demonstrated in the exhibited HSC works. The experience provided meaningful insight into the standard of exemplary student practice and encouraged reflection on their own developing art making processes, ideas and techniques.

Together, these excursions provided rich and authentic learning experiences that strengthened students’ appreciation of contemporary art practice while fostering inspiration, curiosity and ambition for their own future creative pursuits.
